Quarry Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The Quarry Trail shows the kinder, gentler side of Interstate State Park. Until the last 0.1 mile, that is. It’s there the trail earns its more difficult rating. Before that, the trail is a piece of cake; flat, with some great views across the frozen St. Croix River to the high bluffs on the Minnesota shore. Even the 100-foot climb up to the abandoned quarry is made on the gentlest slope possible.
From the South Campground the narrow, one-way, counterclockwise loop plunges into a beautiful mix of spreading, bare-branched oaks and tall, straight white pines. Oaks rely on strong winds to bring their leaves down; these wax-grabbing leaves may blow into the tracks anytime. Fresh snow is always appreciated. Surface quality: Groomed, single tracked. Fees: yes."
