Simply the grandest of the area’s Ice Age Trail segments, with two dramatic bluffs overlooking Devil’s Lake and an assortment of glacial formations, this hike offers a bit of everything and ends at the entrance to Parfrey’s Glen, a wonder in its own right. The length alone might discourage some hikers or at least compel them to cut it in half, perhaps spending a night camping at Devil’s Lake State Park, which is just past the halfway point. If hiked one-way, it requires either two vehicles or a bike drop at Parfrey’s Glen to get back to the trailhead. A walk of about 2.9 miles via CR DL and Marsh Road would also work, making this a 21.1-mile loop. Make sure you know when sundown is and that you start early.
