This central Wisconsin section of the Wisconsin River starts in a city park and flows wide and strong south toward Wausau. The shores are forested on both sides, with very little sign of development. You will pass several islands along the way—often with narrow, more intimate passages behind them—and a collection of small isles with varying paths through them not far after the halfway point and before the interstate bridges. The takeout is in the Wisconsin River Forest Unit, managed by Marathon County.
