Ginseng Country Tour Professional Review and Guide
"You're in the center of the western half of the Northern Hemisphere with this ride, just a few miles from 45 degrees latitude, 90 degrees longitude. You'll also feel as though you're on top of Wisconsin when you see the incredible views from these rolling hills. The ride begins in Merrill, the seat of Lincoln County, located at the confluence of the Wisconsin and Prairie Rivers. Merrill is a river town, but not in the Mark Twain sense; the Wisconsin River was at the center of the late-1800s logging boom, and Merrill was part of the action. As a result of the rivers, finding your way through Merrill's maze of streets takes a good sense of direction and sharp map-reading skills.
While in Merrill, be sure to check out the historic, colonial-style courthouse, completed in 1902. Its 156-foot-high tower makes it easy to find. Rivers are in valleys and the Wisconsin River cuts a deep valley in some places. Once you've climbed out of the valley onto the ridges above, you'll be constantly going up and down long, gradual hills. Your reward for climbing will be some breathtaking scenery. Things to see: Ginseng farms, spectacular scenery; historic buildings of Merrill, including the courthouse; Wisconsin River."
