Copper Falls

Copper Falls Professional Review and Guide

"One of northern Wisconsin’s most beautiful state parks, Copper Falls has two impressive waterfalls where the Bad River meets Tyler Forks River. The North Country Trail passes through the park, and an observation tower gives you a bird’s-eye view of a richly forested terrain with impressive geological sights along the river gorge.

It is difficult to maintain a brisk pace on Copper Falls’s Three Bridges Trail; too many distractions line the path’s route. Its well-constructed 1.8 miles off er a constant parade
of falling water, charming nooks, and rock canyons. Those canyon walls are part of the rich geological history described in the park’s newspaper. Walk east from the parking lot past the concession building and turn left (north) to cross a sturdy bridge over the Bad River."

ABSOLUTELY HORRID . THIS PARK HAS DESIGNATED THE ONLY WORTHWHILE TRAIL AS A NATURE TRAIL AND PROHIBITS DOGS. WIS STATE PARK PERSONNEL APPEAR TO BE VERY VERY EAGER TO AVOID ALL WORK, THEY'VE ELIMINATED GARBAGE CANS AS WELL. STATE SHOULD ELIMINATE ALL PARK PERSONNELL AND HIRE WASTE MANAGEMENT TO PICK UP GARBAGE AND GET AUTOMATED TICKET SELLERS AS MOST CITIES NOW HAVE FOR PARKING.

I snowshoed this trail in January to escape my annual cabin fever ritual. It was beautiful in the winter, and I saw only two people the entire day. Much of the trail was closed to hiking and snoeshoeing to maintain the ski trails, which is unfortunate for those of us who prefer walking to gliding. I also stayed overnight at the campground, which of course was completely deserted in January. Several sites are plowed throughout the winter.

The backpack trail was good with some nice hills and slopes. It was two miles in to our site, and it was well worth it. We were camped on the bank of the Bad river rapids and the view down river was great. We were the only people back there and from there we day hiked the other trails in the park. It is a must to bring a camera when you go there because the views from the trails are just breath taking even with the water level being low. The water falls were still somthing to see and we all ways would run into some deer on the trails. But one of my high points of the trip was that a wolf pack lives in the area and we would see fresh tracks almost every day around the camp and hear them at night some times. It is well worth the trip and I look forward to doing it again next summer.
