Big Bay State Park Trails

Big Bay State Park Trails Professional Review and Guide

"Every part of this easy ski or snowshoe trek is filled with a sense of adventure, even getting to the trail. There is something very fascinating about the Apostle Islands in winter. They are so stark, frozen in the bay’s icy grip.

Distant islands seem deceptively near. On the Big Bay State Park side of Madeline Island, you can look east across the shore ice to the dark blue expanse of Lake Superior. The lake is so deep it has only frozen over a few times in history. In the distance rise the Porcupine Mountains of Michigan. Surface quality: Ungroomed, skier or snowshoer packed. Fees: yes."
