Hayward Cluster

Hayward Cluster Professional Review and Guide

"The Hayward Cluster is the farthest south of all the CAMBA trails and for those just arriving the first possible stop on the road leading to Cable. Hayward is a legendary place in Wisconsin lore, known for decades as one of the toughest logging towns in all the north. The endless span of trees brought brawny men to the area for work, ready to take on the hardship of the north woods. I would guess many of their descendants are still here, still rough and ready but now pedaling mountain bikes through the forest with thick thighs and calves passed on from generations gone by.

The Trail Descente is the first loop you will come across, logging in at 8.6 miles including the ride out from the trailhead. The trail covers singletrack and doubletrack over a patch of terrain set into the hills. The Plantation Trail is next and is one of the few in the cluster not to brush up against the Birkie Trail. The trail covers dirt road for the most part with some double and singletrack on the southern portion."

May to November. The best time of year to ride is in the spring and fall when the temperatures are cooler and the bugs are dormant. In a place as dominated by trees as this, the fall is of course dazzling.
Season
Available at trailheads, or through CAMBA. The CAMBA package includes an area map and five cluster maps.
