Kettle Moraine State Forest—Pike Lake Unit Trails Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This state park offers color-coded hikes through terrain characterized by glacial deposits. A 60-foot observation tower stands atop the second-highest point within the Kettle Moraine State Forest system, granting an incredible 360-degree view that is especially nice when fall colors arrive.

The hike is primarily through rich forest, but abandoned farm equipment on the Green Trail shows this wasn’t always the case. The Astronomy Trail is a unique feature, with interpretive signage along its length to give you perspective on the size of the universe. Pike Lake is a 522-acre spring-fed kettle, while Powder Hill at the park’s center is an example of a kame—compressed sand and rock deposits left behind when the glacier melted."
