Wild Goose State Trail

Wild Goose State Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This quiet trail that skirts the west side of the vast Horicon National Wildlife Refuge is a haven for songbirds. There are pleasant parks in Juneau and Oakfield.

There is a 1.6-mile on-road detour west of Oakfield and on-street sections in Burnett and Juneau. Numerous road crossings, some of busy highways, require caution. There are very few services available between Oakfield and Juneau. Many sections of the trail are open, with occasional shaded stretches. The use of sunblock is advised. Take care not to frighten horses on the adjacent riding path. Wisconsin State Trails have a carry-in/carry-out policy. Make provisions for carrying out any refuse. No trash receptacles are provided on-trail. Despite the fact that it is a Wisconsin State Trail, no fee is required, but donations are recommended. In winter you must have a Wisconsin snowmobile registration or nonresident trail use sticker.

Surface: Crushed limestone with wood-planked bridges, several short on-road paved sections."
