Minnehaha Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Scenic Peninsula State Park is quiet in winter. One of the state’s most popular in summer, the solitude you’ll find will be a relief from the crowds. This is also true for the village of Fish Creek. The quaint fishing port retains much of the nineteenth-century character it seems to lose when the streets are crowded with cars and tourists. The White Gull Inn Peninsula Park is a peninsula on a peninsula. The Door County Peninsula is a long, narrow stratum of resistant dolomite limestone that split the advancing glacier into the Michigan and Green Bay lobes.

The sheer bluff faces at Peninsula State Park taught scientists several things about post-glacial times. Lake levels varied greatly as the glacier retreated. Caves washed by higher levels are found in the cliffs. The old shorelines are no longer horizontal, showing that the tremendous weight of the ice deformed the earth’s crust. This depression formed an angle, with the hinge being in southern Wisconsin at the farthest extent of the ice. Door County is still rising about an inch every hundred years. You will get a good look at the cliffs as you follow the trail to Eagle Bluff. Surface quality: Ungroomed, snowshoer and hiker packed. Fees: yes"
