Oconomowoc, Delafield, and Dousman Professional Review and Guide

"No matter the season, this westernmost section of Waukesha County offers plenty of things to do. Parks, lakes, campgrounds, and quaint little stores dot the area, connected by a series of state highways that pass through rolling hills and verdant valleys. Originally settled by German and Norwegian farmers, the area had a huge population boom in the late 1800s, when the springwater in nearby Waukesha was thought to contain magical, curative properties. Oconomowoc, as well as the other cities, had its share of famous folk setting up palatial abodes.

At one time Lake Road was referred to as Presidents’ Avenue because Taft, Grant, Cleveland, Coolidge, McKinley, and Teddy Roosevelt had visited Draper Hall, one of the more prominent homes in the neighborhood. Many of the huge mansions went up around the area’s many lakes, and historic walking tours in these communities can be a great way to experience the grandeur of yesteryear. Delafield covers 9 square miles of gentle Kettle Moraine terrain surrounding Lake Nagawicka, which is more than 1,000 acres in size."
