Pearl of Pecatonica Cruise

Pearl of Pecatonica Cruise Professional Review and Guide

"During the lead-mining boom of the early 1800s, this unglaciated region in the southwestern part of the state offered newcomers many opportunities; today it’s a cycler’s paradise. This cruise leaves from a town that once was known for producing pearl button blanks and takes you on an adventure over hills and through dales. As you ride north, you will soon visit a town where fresh cheese curds are available daily.

You’ll then head up around Yellowstone State Park before cruising south to a village named by a Scottish settler in honor of the Duke of Argyle. Following the East Branch of the Pecatonica River, you will pass a town that was originally the site of a fort built to protect settlers during the Black Hawk War. Farther south, you will come to a city on Wolf Creek that was named after a gentleman who came here for the lead but was instrumental in the treaties with Indians. Now circling back to the northeast, it’s time to ponder the two decisions you will soon need to make back in Darlington: (1) what flavor ice cream, and (2) one scoop or two."
