Lost Creek Falls

Lost Creek Falls Professional Review and Guide

"A spot only a local might know about, this hidden waterfall tumbles over a sandstone edge in the heart of the forest. The path rises and falls gently but demands some instinct in the last 100 yards as it follows along the rough banks above Lost Creek Number One. Expect plenty of birds and other wildlife to be observing you.

Follow these directions and you will find yourself at an unmarked trailhead in an area whose major geographical features bear the names Lost Creek Number One, Lost Creek Number Two, and Lost Creek Number Three. Persevere. After an inauspicious beginning the route finding is straightforward, the walking pleasant, and the woods gain ambiance. Your reward is a charming waterfall set in a sandstone glen where solitude is a reasonable expectation."

I lived in Red Cliff for a summer and did this hike a few times. Earlier summer provides fewer bugs but colder water and depending upon the precipitation later in the summer provides more bugs and less water. The best time to go is on a hot day as swimming in the falls is a welcome respite. Finding the trailhead can be a bit difficult. Lost Creek Falls is truly a local gem so please be mindful of how many people you take there.
