Lake Wissota State Park Campground Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Lake Wissota State Park is close to the city of Chippewa Falls—too close I feared, before coming to check it out. But after overnighting here, I came to appreciate its rustic nature despite its proximity to town. On the shores of big Lake Wissota, the park offers the watery recreation associated with a big lake, yet also has lots of trails for hikers and mountain bikers in a restored prairie.

The campground is heavily wooded and well kept and offers a great natural respite for tent campers, including those from Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire. It’s a good sign when locals use a campground just minutes from home. The campground is set on a bluff well above Lake Wissota and is divided into two bisected loops. The first loop contains sites 1–60. A campground host fronts the first loop. Basswood, white pines, maples, and oaks loom overhead. Thick"

This was a nice big campground. I was thrilled to hear a coyote yipping in the middle of the night, as well as birds galore. Watch out for ticks in the spring/early summer, as I found a few on me. The sites nearest the water looked a bit buggy, but the others were great. Make the strenuous hike up to Brady's Bluff and you won't be disappointed!
