Chippewa Valley Cruise

Chippewa Valley Cruise Professional Review and Guide

"The city of Chippewa Falls lies just a few miles south of the forty-fifth parallel of latitude. That puts it halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. It's a transition zone that marks the change from the scenic farmland to the vast woodlands that characterize Wisconsin. This tour, held annually on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, spans the boundary area. In addition to the loop shown here, the tour includes 30-, 75-, 100- mile routes.

The postrace picnic features typical Wisconsin fare: bratwurst, Chippewa spring water, and Leinenkugel's beer. As you roll east and north from Chippewa Falls and cross the Chippewa River where it enters the flowage known as Lake Wissota, you'll pass the apple orchards and farms that prosper in spite of the diminished sunlight that marks the forty-fifth parallel. At Jim Falls you'll cross the Chippewa again at the site of one of the Midwest's state-of-the-art hydroelectric power plants."
