Escaping the Escarpment Professional Review and Guide
"At one time the area between Lake Winnebago and Lake Michigan was covered in a pine forest. After the forest was logged out, fertile agricultural land remained. There are a few trees left nowadays, just mile after mile of farm fields, rimmed by occasional tree lines. This ride wanders from Chilton and heads down the Niagara Escarpment through farm country to some great panoramic views of Lake Winnebago.
The Niagara Escarpment through farm country to some great panoramic views of Lake Winnebago. The Niagara Escarpment is a dense, limestone outcropping that runs for more than 1,000 miles from Niagara Falls into Wisconsin east of Lake Winnebago; Chilton sits atop its eastern rim. The entire ride takes place in rolling farm country, passing fields of corn and occasional fields of brilliant sunflowers. Things to see: Chilton, South Branch of the Manitowoc River, Lake Winnebago, Niagara Escarpment, Stockbridge, Ledge View Nature Center."
