Kettle Moraine State Forest—Northern Unit: New Fane Hiking Trails Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This is a compact ski area, compared to others in the Kettle Moraine, and as such offers a rugged but short trek through varying terrain—hardwood forest, a glimpse of wetlands, and some very nice ridges of glacial deposits. Dedicated bike trails keep the wheels off your heels, while the views of slopes, ravines, and kettles give you something to pause and admire.
Start out through the grass in an open meadow along the longest of the routes: the Purple Trail. The trails are clearly marked with color-coded poles, and that’s important. Several singletrack loops crisscross the hiking trail all the way around the loop. Junctures with the Green and Red Trails can be used as cutoff s, alternate routes, or simply some crisscrossing of your own if you want."
