Escanaba Trails Professional Review and Guide

"The Escanaba Trails are yet another set of north woods mountain bike trails near the small town of Boulder Junction high up in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. The trails are connected at the north end of the cluster to the Lumberjack Trails covered in the preceding chapter. The Escanaba Trails, however, differ from the Lumberjack Trails in the sense that they cover much more technical ground.

There are two main loops, one surrounding Pallette Lake, the other surrounding the system’s namesake, Escanaba Lake. Fishing is permitted in both of the larger lakes, with a great deal of shoreline accessible along the bike trails. For a good long day of riding, try the Escanaba Loops, ride north to the Lumberjack Trail, return to Escanaba and spend the rest of the day on the shore of Pallette Lake casting for smallmouth bass."

Physical Difficulty
When trails are free of snow they are open to mountain bikers, basically April to early November. Marshlands mean bugs and sloppy trail sections in spring. The best riding is in summer and fall, ideally late fall after the first frost when the ground is hard and bugs are scarce.
