"With its marvelous beaches along Lake Michigan and easy hiking trails, Harrington Beach State Park is quite popular with families and day-trippers. The park has some of the best sandy beaches so close to Milwaukee. On summer weekends you will see a lot of families coming here with the kids. But this wasn’t always a recreational site. From the late 19th century up until 1925, limestone was quarried here.

A historical walking trail passes some scattered ruins of what was Stonehaven, a mining company town. The quarry is now a small lake surrounded by nicely shaded hiking trails. The beach is quite a hike from the campsites, and the beach parking lot often fills up fast. But campers can use a shuttle that loops through the park all day until 7 p.m. The"
