Oak Island

Oak Island Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Come for the day or camp for the night on the highest and driest of the Apostle Islands. Much of the 11.0 miles of trails passes through shady forest and the middle of the island is the highest point on Wisconsin’s Lake Superior shore. Pristine beaches and wildlife viewing await.

Walk north 100 yards from the dock on Oak Island’s west side and a trail sign will direct you onto the Loop Trail, a shady path in a pleasant, mature hardwood forest. The trail ascends slowly and gains 400 feet in the next 1.7 miles. After 1.2 miles you pass the junction of the Northwest Beach Trail and at mile 1.7 you top out near the highest point in the Apostles Islands and turn left (north) on the Overlook Trail."
