Devil's Lake State Park

Devil's Lake State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Mountain biking at Devil’s Lake State Park takes place high on the East Bluff of this ancient glacial canyon. The park is famous for its glacial remains including stunning examples of erratics in the Balanced Rock and Devil’s Doorway formations. Hikers and climbers are the main populace of the park, and they definitely have the upper hand.

The hiking trail system and climbing sites were developed by the CCC and hug the lake on both sides, providing spectacular views at every turn. The Ice Age Loop is the only trail open to mountain bikers and covers 4 miles over hard-packed singletrack, grass and gravel paths. The cliff walls and fields of tumbled boulders, many of which are larger than a compact car, illustrate the massive restructuring this state underwent during the ice age. The lake itself is carved so deep that in some areas the depth was unknown until advanced methods were available to gauge the depth. From the top of the bluffs it becomes obvious that park visitors were not the first to be amazed by the glacial structure."

Awesome views from the bluffs- I hiked this (not biked) and had a great day walking around this really sweet lake. The Devil's Doorway is worth the hike but Balanced Rock is nothing too special.
