Mississippi Ridge Trail

Mississippi Ridge Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The Mississippi Ridge Trail is bound to be the easiest ski with the greatest view you will ever find. The two-way double tracked trail runs entirely in a deep hardwood forest. The most challenging part is a 5-foot dip into a little ravine. The tall maples hide the closely paralleling Cathedral Drive, which is unplowed in winter.

If you ski late in the day, a low sun will cast bands of shadows across the drifted snow. The overviews are as spectacular as the trail is tame. The first comes about half way along at a point deep in the woods. The second is at the southern end of the trail at the open picnic area. From both you’ll look out across North America’s mightiest river to the imposing bluffs of the Iowa shore. Surface quality: Groomed periodically, double tracked. Fees: yes."
