North Bluff Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Sandhill State Wildlife Area offers 9,150 acres of preserved wetlands and forest with a 14-mile auto tour around the entire property.Trails and gravel roads crisscross the terrain, taking hikers through prime birding locations and up a tall bluff with an observation tower overlooking it all.The emphasis here is on wildlife.

Sandhill State Wildlife Area’s abundance of wildlife and open sight lines make this one of the best wildlife viewing spots in the state. As its name indicates, sandhill cranes are a frequent visitor here, but they are far from the only attraction. Wood ducks, heron, teal, and geese are among the seasonal visitors. Otter, beaver, and timber wolves are present all year."
