Loggers Loop

Loggers Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Standing Rocks—home of the glacial erratic and the skiing fanatic. They used to sell T-shirts with that motto on the front. Glacial erratics are huge granite boulders—the standing rocks—that the Green Bay ice sheet rolled to its western edge. Beyond the park, just a short distance west, the terrain flattens almost completely.

For you, the skiing fanatic, the important things are that the big rocks are not on the trail and that the glacier left some excellent skiing terrain. A commitment to good grooming is another strong point at Standing Rocks; the comfortable chalet adds to the experience. Standing Rocks’ trail system has evolved over the past fifteen years from a few basic loops to today’s explosion-in-a-spaghetti-factory milieu of skiing options. The Loggers Loop is one of the venerable routes that offers the kind of moderate cross-country experience the park was known for before trails named Gut Buster, The Wall, and Last Thrill were added. Surface quality: Groomed, single tracked, skate lane. Fees: yes."
