Sugar River State Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"New Glarus is a wonderfully hospitable town with a strong Swiss heritage. Marsh and dairy farm scenery and pleasant trail towns are found along the trail. Surface: The first 0.3 mile south from New Glarus is asphalt, the rest is crushed limestone with wood-planked bridges. A 1.7-mile asphalt spur trail runs south along WI 69 to New Glarus Woods State Park."

"Leaving from a town called “America’s Little Switzerland,” this ramble makes a circle tour around both the Little Sugar and Sugar Rivers as it rolls through the countryside. After exploring the upper half of Green County, the route briefly slips up into northern Dane County and then returns to a community named after a city in Canada. Now back in Green County, as you cruise south the road twists and turns as it follows the Sugar River.

Soon you will pass through a village named after a town in Ohio. Farther along enjoy the rolling terrain through grassy meadows where songbirds greet you as you ride by. Now turning to the west, stop for a snack and watch cheese being made the traditional way. After experiencing a couple Wisconsin rollers, you’ll cruise into a town with a name that means “little mountain.” The ramble comes full circle as you turn to the north, back to New Glarus for a “cow parade” and brewery tour."
