Fryingpan Creek Couloir

Fryingpan Creek Couloir Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A striking line in a spectacular setting, Fryingpan Creek Couloir has all the ingredients of a classic couloir: steep, narrow, and deep. Combine this descent with a rappel entrance, and it is guaranteed to get your heart racing.

To access the couloir from the top (the approach we recommend), follow the Wonderland Trail to the basin at the head of Fryingpan Creek. If there is a lot of snow, it may be difficult to follow the trail down low. As long as you keep the creek a couple hundred meters to your left, it does not matter. At 4400 feet, the terrain steepens and the trail switchbacks right next to the creek. The trail is fairly obvious here and allows you another good look at the couloir. Follow or cut the switchback to gain flatter terrain at 4600 feet. If you choose to ascend the couloir from the bottom, you will want to drop down and cross Fryingpan Creek here. To drop in from the top, continue up the climber’s right side of the creek."
