Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

Day Hiking Mount Adams and Goat Rocks (The Mountaineers Books)
Tami Asars
"Kids and adults will love this hike with its abundant nature, fairly level trail, and swinging suspension bridge for channeling your inner Indiana Jones. High above you golden eagles and osprey soar, while Lewis’s woodpeckers peck away at ponderosa pines near the trail looking for insects. A keen eye may pick out Rocky Mountain elk or bighorn sheep that roam the hills above, camouflaged by the landscape."
Fred Barstad
"Hike along the Tieton River through an area that is recovering from a fire, watching for wildlife as you go. This trail is open to mountain bikes as well as hikers. Many Rocky Mountain elk inhabit this area in the winter. The canyon bottom along this trail, as well as the slopes above it, burned in mid-August 2002. Some of the trees survived, and the grass and bushes will recover soon. In many cases the grass and flowers come back better after a fire than they were before."
Fred Barstad
"Hike along the swiftly flowing Tieton River through evergreen and oak forest, watching for Rocky Mountain elk as you go. The best time to see Rocky Mountain elk is just after the snow melts."
