Bluff Mountain to Silver Star Mountain Summit Trails 172, 180, and 180D Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Hike along a mostly open ridgeline with fantastic views and tons of flowers, from a poorly marked trailhead on Forest Road 41 to the summit of Silver Star Mountain. This entire area was burned in the 1902 Yacolt Burn.

Much of the burned area has not naturally reforested itself and has not been replanted with trees, leaving many ridges and slopes mostly open. This openness gives the area a more alpine character than the altitude would suggest."

Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"Hike along a mostly open ridgeline with fantastic views and tons of flowers, from a poorly marked trailhead on Forest Road 41 to the summit of Silver Star Mountain. Bears are common here; keep a sharp lookout and you may see one. Looking southwest from the open talus slope, the Columbia River and Portland can be seen in the distance through the haze. You reach the ridgeline, at 3,460 feet elevation, on the west side of Little Baldy 0.6 mile after leaving the timbered saddle." Read more
