Paul Peak Trail

Paul Peak Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This is a relatively short descent along the side of Paul Peak. The trail, one of the few that may be snow-free in May, travels through lush forest and across the clear waters of Meadow Creek before descending to the pebbly banks of the North Mowich River.

The Paul Peak Trail is one of the few park trails that can be snow-free in May, although patches of snow can remain into mid-June. For this reason, the traffic on this trail is heavy in May and dwindles further into the summer. The trail takes you over a pleasant creek and through a beautiful forest, and the North Mowich River offers a destination worth the distance.

The first 0.6 mile of the trail is steep down to Meadow Creek. At the bottom of the hill, a wide sturdy bridge crosses the clear waters of Meadow Creek. It is worth spending a little time at Meadow Creek, which originates from Eunice Lake."

Very enjoyable. OK to take the kids. No bugs! Had lunch at the river in the sun. A bit cloudy for views of Mt Rainier. Trail narrow in spots. Save your energy - its uphill all the way back to the car!
The road to the trailhead just inside the Park boundary is snowfree. (Road workers were grading and filling in potholes.) Snow in parking area was melting fast, and first half mile of trail was snow free. Then snow lay on trail up to 1 foot deep for about 1/2 mile, but tracks through snow made trail obvious. Once you leave vicinity of stream, snow disappears and the rest of the trail is snow free to South Mowich shelter and beyond. Violas blooming alongside lower trail.
