Shoe Lake Professional Review and Guide

"This is what the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is all about—dancing along a steep, knife-edged ridge at the top of the mountain range. The trail from White Pass climbs through thin forests and crosses stunning alpine meadows, reaching a gorgeous little alpine lake, but it’s the section in the middle—the long traverse under Hogback Mountain—that sets this off as an excellent example of the PCT.

Hikers aren't the only heavy users of Shoe Lake Basin. This meadow-rich area along the Cascade crest attracts herds of mule deer, mountain goats, and elk out of the wooded valleys on either side of the crest."
