Rock Island Creek

Rock Island Creek Professional Review and Guide

"Few areas can match the panoramic splendor of the view that sweeps over the pretty desert canyon of Rock Island Creek with a broad field of wildflowers filling the foreground. This BLM land is one of the areas described within that agency’s “Watchable Wildflower” booklet. By hiking just below the bluff cliffs, hikers can explore for some time.

There are no definitive trails to follow, but the open slope offers unobstructed routes of exploration. Work your way northeast from the parking area and hug the slope. Watch for mule deer under the bluff as they frequently browse among the buckwheat that thrives here. This is also prime habitat of chukar—a beautiful upland game bird that prefers steep slopes and arid landscapes."
