Vashon Island: Point Robinson and Maury Island Regional Marine Park Professional Review and Guide
"This attractive out-and-back hike along a pristine beach provides a real taste of island life to visitors. Starting at the historical Point Robinson Lighthouse, the trail runs along the shore about 1.5 miles to Maury Island Marine Park, with a host of interesting discoveries to be made along the way.
Many Seattle residents think of Vashon and Bainbridge together, linked in people’s minds as neighboring islands across Puget Sound to the west. Yet they are actually quite different, each with its own unique character and style. Much of Bainbridge is simply an upscale suburb of Seattle, with a ferry that lands right downtown, bringing crowds of daily commuters who retreat back across the water to their stately homes at night. Vashon, on the other hand, retains a rural character and receives far fewer visitors. Most of its outbound ferry traffic gets dropped at Fauntleroy, located, inconveniently for commuters, at the southern end of West Seattle."
