The old highway from Vantage, an old settlers’ road, drops down a steep canyon to a crossing of the Columbia River—before the Wanapum Dam went in, the road crossed the river here. Now the roadway simply disappears into the river. Still, from this route, you can enjoy outstanding views of the Columbia River as it rolls through the basalt canyon.
