Tarbell Trail Loop

Tarbell Trail Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Highlights: A long gravel climb is rewarded by buffed-out singletrack through a second-growth forest and several nice views. Tread: 10.9 miles singletrack; 10.6 miles gravel. Hazards: Be aware that this trail is used frequently by equestrians, some of the switchbacks are tricky."

Read your trail guide book carefully. This is not an "intermediate trail". The first 6 miles are a fairly difficult up hill climb on gravel roads. By that time my legs were burning (that should have been a clue). We proceeded up the single track trail and found several new logging roads that weren't on the original trail review. Make sure you have a good forest service map of the roads. We made one wrong turn and ended up walking our bikes back out of a canyon. The trail also had several downed trees over it. I would say all and all the trail is a great loop, just make sure you are in good shape first. It isn't for the weak.
