Columbia River Smith and Bybee Lakes

Columbia River: Smith and Bybee Lakes Professional Review and Guide

"Smith and Bybee Lakes are two large bodies of water in north Portland, but most Portland residents have never seen them or even heard of them. Bybee Lake is 250 acres in area with a 5.9-mile shoreline; Smith Lake is even larger, at about 600 acres with a 6.9-mile shoreline.

The two lakes represent a huge natural area in the middle of a major industrial zone. No motorboats are allowed, except electric motors; the only noise disturbing the scene will probably be planes approaching or departing from Portland International Airport to the east, the sound of a distant train, or perhaps race cars at nearby Portland International Raceway."
