Capitol State Forest –Larch Mountain Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The mainstay for mountain biking on the western side of the Cascades, Capitol State Forest will always be a popular site for recreation. This ride starts with a hefty forest road climb and moves into rolling singletrack at the top. There are many trails out here, so follow the signs and our directions to avoid getting lost."

Very intense set of trails that interconnect, but beware, there will be a lot of ATVs and dirt bikes on the trails with you, even the trails that are marked as motorized rides not allowed (but they generally were considerate of mountain bikers). Took about 3 hours to ride up near the peak of Rock Candy mountain, then 1 hour for the downhill. Trails were fairly well marked throughout, but I would highly suggest you consult and possibly bring with a map such as the Dept of Natural Resources map here: www.dnr.wa.gov/Publications/eng_rms_capmapnu_may2.pdf I had my GPS along for the ride and was glad I did, it helped us find our way back to the car (did I mention there are intersecting trails everywhere?), but some dirt bike riders also kindly confirmed the direction of the parking lot. Very muddy, very fun, just remember to pack food and snacks because this trail will wear you out!
