The Spearhead Traverse

The Spearhead Traverse Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Spearhead Range is not located in Washington, but we love this classic route anyway. The access is as good as it gets, and contrary to what you might expect, you will be touring in relative solitude. This might change a bit if the proposed hut system along the tour route is built in the near future. The scenery is spectacular and alpine, but the route is moderate. It never climbs more than 1500 feet in a stretch, and the downhill portions are quite moderate.

The weather in this area is also classic for the region, and navigation on the glaciated terrain of the tour can become quite difficult. If you are a strong tourer, you might be able to blast through the described route in one day. Traveling light and fast is certainly fun, but it takes away from the area’s potential. As described, the tour enables you to take advantage of the countless ski descents off the little peaks that you pass along the way. They range wildly in steepness and commitment."
