I took the South Climb route and it was great. There was very little snow along the way, except for the minimal glaciers, which are really more like snowfields. But without snow, at times the trail isn't exactly clear, especially below the Lunch Counter. I brought crampons and an ice axe, but really didn't need either this late in the season. I was glad to have trekking poles though. It does get very steep at times on scree that is probably snow-covered most of the year. Overall, this is just a tough 12-mile hike. I summited in 4:40, but I would guess most people would take closer to 6 or 7 hours. Including Adams, I could see 10 volcanoes from the summit on what was a beautiful, calm day. I highly recommend this "forgotten" volcano.

    Fantastic experience!

Climbed Aug 5 and 6 with American Lung Association Reach the Summit team.

Ranger Station in Trout Lake issues required combination climb/parking pass and has road info. NW Trail Pass not good unless hiking below 7000'

This may be best described as a beginner's climb rather than a simple hike. Take it seriously and bring the proper equipment - crampons, ice ax, trekking poles, helmets, headlamps etc.

Alpine (1 a.m.) start meant great snow conditions going and returning. Not much opportunity to glisade down as run-outs ended in rocks.

Wide range of temperatures - very warm from trailhead to Lunch Counter, 15 degree wind temperature at the summit.

Forest fire smoke layer hid views from summit but arriving there to watch sunrise was an incredible experience.

We drove from the North and tried to access the trailhead from Forest Service road 23 or 25...got shut out about 20 miles from the trailhead by 2 feet of snow and downed trees...is there a way to determine if and when the road is cleared?

Great trail, except for the parts where it is not marked well. This is definitely more on the side of a beginner's climb than a tough hike, especially in OCT. We were forced to turn around at 10,500ft due to the white out conditions and the 35mph wind, but this trail taught me a lot about volcano climbing and the weather in the NW. Thanks for the maps and the guide book..
