Junction Lake Trail

Junction Lake Trail Professional Review and Guide

"A warm, shallow wilderness lake surrounded by subalpine meadows, Junction will please families because there are a number of small ponds to lure kids with along the way. What is the junction? Its name evidently comes from the connection of this trail with the Pacific Crest Trail at the far end of the lake.

In ¼ mile step into the Indian Heaven Wilderness and feel and smell the difference. Nothing has been cut down, graded, or gouged with motorcycle tracks. Children will like searching the lichen-encrusted tree trunks to see old men’s beards, mustaches, and eyebrows in their shapes. The trail is wide and gains elevation gradually. There is some evidence of volcanic activity. To the left the tree-covered hill is a small dead crater, without a trail, and the little ponds along the ridge top between miles 1 and 2 are volcanic potholes."
