Lake Ann

Lake Ann Professional Review and Guide

"Many hikes are taken for the beauty of the scenery at trail’s end, but the hike to Lake Ann is lovely all the way. You will encounter meadows and forests, creeks and rockslides, wide views, spectacular glaciers and a lake often frozen year round. Leave this trip until fall; some years snow lingers through summer, making the hike more difficult. Allow plenty of time and be sure to take a sun hat and sunglasses.

There are several tumbling creeks to refresh you, though, as well as the magnificent sight of Mount Baker to the southwest, looking every bit the snow-clad volcano. During recent years there has been volcanic activity from Baker, and occasionally parts of steam can be seen coming from the crater below the
summit on the south side. It takes an hour or more to climb the 275 m (900 feet) to the saddle overlooking Lake Ann. You may have to plod over some old snow on the final stretches."
