Excelsior Pass

Excelsior Pass Professional Review and Guide

"Thanks to a lengthy access road, this hike to the High Divide begins from a trailhead at 1280 m (4200 feet) and is much the easiest of the three routes to Excelsior Pass. For modest effort the rewards are great: a forest of giant hemlocks, extensive alpine meadows and magnificent views of Mount Baker and the Border Peaks.

When the meadows are clear of snow, usually by mid-July, you will find glacier lilies, valerian, hellebore, lupine, monkey-flower, coltsfoot, wood betony and others. The hike is suitable for a family outing; take binoculars and your wildflower book and choose a clear day."
