Centennial Trail West

Centennial Trail West Professional Review and Guide

"Five miles west of downtown Spokane on the Spokane River. Great views of the river, Bowl and Pitcher Park and Riverside State Park access. Depending on weather, can be ridden at least three seasons. The entire trail is paved."

Overall, this was a pretty awesome ride. The scenery on the west side of the river is just spectacular. You look down from the trail into the gorge with the river, and are surrounded by nothing but pine forest. You really get the feeling your out in the woods alone. After you cross 7 mile bridge, you start riding on the side of the road, and there are some more spectacular views of the river. The water is so high this year, it actually looks like you're in a bayou. The only reason I rated it at 4 stars is the fact that the whole ride on the east side of the river is on the road with no bike lane, and you pass by a sewage treatment plant at one point. The path is mostly flat with one pretty steep hill, one or two moderate hills, and then the rest are gradual. For the most part, it's just a nice scenic ride.
