Lichtenberg Mountain Professional Review and Guide
"Lichtenberg Mountain lies 1.6 miles south of Union Peak, just across the Smith Brook Valley. In midwinter, the two basins to the northeast and northwest frequently hold powder snow for weeks after it falls.
The approach is similar to those for Union and Jove Peaks. Ski along Smith Brook Road, this time to the first switchback, 1.7 miles from US 2. Continue northwest for 0.5 miles, crossing Smith Brook at the most opportune place. Once you complete this leg, climb due south up a broad, partly wooded ridge to Lichtenwasser Lake (4,700 feet). The ridge directly west of Lichtenwasser Lake leads to the summit of Lichtenberg Mountain. Alternately, you can cross the lake and climb the headwall to its south until you reach a saddle (0.9 mile, 900 feet), then continue until prudence suggests a halt. From your high point, two different descents are possible. You can descend to Lake Valhalla via benches to the northwest or retrace your ascent route."
