Walt Bailey Trail

Walt Bailey Trail Professional Review and Guide

"There are about a dozen Cutthroat Lakes scattered like rare coins through the meadows below Bald Mountain, although I am not certain where one draws the line between large tarns and small lakes. No matter: This is a great destination in the summer and into fall, when the blueberries are ripe.

There is something for everyone—wildflower enthusiasts, hikers, backpackers—and even a tough scramble of Bald Mountain for those with mountaineering skills. Hikers who enjoy a challenge can also approach the lakes from Ashland Lakes, but it is a longer route and the middle stretch, the Bald Mountain trail, is seldom hiked, overgrown, and hard to follow."
