McCallister Trail 1109

McCallister Trail 1109 Professional Review and Guide

"Traverse out of Indian Creek Canyon, then hike across the gently rolling terrain through old-growth forest to a junction with the Sand Ridge Trail. The McCallister Trail leaves the junction with the Indian Creek Trail heading southwest.

The forest here is typical for the elevation, with Douglas fir, true firs, western red cedar, and hemlock, with a few western white pines mixed in. In the openings beneath the trees, white-flowered rhododendron blooms in July. The course crosses a couple of streams in the first mile. Walk quietly and listen and you may hear a grouse drumming. Elk are also common along this route—in September you might hear a bull bugling."
