Hood Head

Hood Head Professional Review and Guide

"Shine Tidelands State Park, north of the Hood Canal Bridge, features an interesting bay, lagoon, and a gravel spit, all preserved in this undeveloped state park. All this, plus easy access make this a nice afternoon’s destination or easy overnight trip using the Cascadia Marine Trail site on Hood Head.

Ducks, herons, and other waterfowl are plentiful in the lagoon during the winter months. The alongshore paddling and largely protected waters constitute a suitable trip for new kayakers. Paddling at Hood Head could be combined with other paddling routes in the area, such as Port Gamble and Mats Mats Bay trip."
