Sequim, WA Professional Review and Guide

"Sequim (skwim) grew out of a small cluster of farms in the Sequim/Dungeness Valley, some of which date as far back as 1851. The area is known for its unusually warm, dry climate, so dry in fact that pioneers found cacti growing on the lowlands. They couldn’t raise crops without irrigation provided by the Dungeness River. While western portions of the Olympic Peninsula get drenched each year with as much as 140 inches of rain, the Sequim/Dungeness Valley lies in the dry shadow of the Olympic Mountains and gets a mere 10 to 18 inches.

Today, Sequim is famous for its Dungeness crab and fields of growing lavender. The pleasant climate and nearby recreational opportunities have recently attracted enough new residents to make this one of the fastest-growing areas on the peninsula. Although it’s largely a retirement community, in recent years it has become much more tourist oriented, with new motels, bed-and-breakfast inns, and restaurants. This eTrail includes information on lodging, campgrounds, RV parks, restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and outdoor activities near this coastal city."
