Lower Dungeness Loop

Lower Dungeness Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This 14.6-mile loop, amid two distinct environments, is as interesting as it is exciting. The initial, strenuous 3.2 miles on gravel road and the steep climbing and descending on the rooty singletrack make it suitable for advanced riders. After the initial climbing, the final 4.7 miles on the road is a fun, fast descent and the final singletrack descent is a steep, technical thriller.

The Lower Dungeness Trail is in a unique area within the rain shadow of the Olympics. As you start on the singletrack alongside the river, you cruise along a rooty, hard-pack trail through a soft, lush area, with stately old-growth cedar and hemlock towering over ferns, mosses, and riverside shrubbery. This area is moist enough to escape much of the effects of the wildfires that have shaped the landscape of the upper reaches of the trail. Two singletracks in one: lush riverside trail and rugged forest ridge trail. Scenery: Views of Dungeness River Valley from above and below; Buckhorn Wilderness news; old growth; lush, riverside scenery; dry, rugged forest."

trail is in great shape! At the top of the climb there is a connecting trail called three oclock ridge! great single track.decend down .5 mile to main trail. go right to gold creek trail. or go left to go back to the car, which would be a short but sweet loop.
