Ozette Triangle

Ozette Triangle Professional Review and Guide

"The Ozette Triangle (named for the loop’s shape) is the perfect introduction to America’s wildest coastline south of Alaska: sea stacks, sea otters, sea lions, and ocean scenery for as far as you can see.

Walk along silver strands of spectacular sandy beaches, passing reefs and tide pools. Scout for whales, eagles, harlequin ducks, and oyster catchers; admire ancient Native American petroglyphs. This classic hike is popular with backpackers but can easily be done in a day."

The beach was outstanding. Its not a difficult hike by any means, but I was surprised by the amount of driftwood we had to climb over in order to get to the beach. It was a little concerning climbing around on the damp logs. Other than that, perfect experience. I highly recommend it.

This is a great hike and lots to see but I want to share some insights that will make the hike worthwhile. 1. If you want to get inside the hole in the wall and/or beyond (North) it must be at low tide. You have to schedule your hike around the tides and make sure you aren't stuck somewhere you don't want to be when the tide comes in. There aren't any trails inland that will save you. 2. The beach at higher tides can be tough to traverse. The key is to either find packed sand or stay on ribbons of the feet-sized rocks. If you get into pebbles or small smooth rocks be sure to intentionally stamp your feet to create a more solid base as you walk. Plan ahead and this can be a great hike. Take your camera as there are plenty of things to photograph along the way.
