This moderately graded hike offers an excellent close-up look at Loomis Mountain, as well as more distant views of Dock Butte and faraway Baker Lake. It also offers consistently deep trenches to run down, then up the other side, which was a bit punishing to the knees. Trekking poles would definitely help. We had to bushwhack through some thick stands of young deciduous trees, which were so closely knit that you had to step on some of the branches to get through. I felt bad, even knowing that I was supposed to be staking a trail.
